The Society actively encourages Observational Astronomy, Astrophotography, Telescope and Observatory Construction. Many of our members specialize in one or more forms of observing and have indeed become very proficient. Our members have contributed data for lunar & planetary observations, comet observations, variable star observations and supernova searching. Some members enjoy building telescopes, including the optics, observatories and ALL our members have at some time or other enjoyed a good AstroCamp! Follow this link to see photos of some
of our members & their telescopes. Society ActivitiesMonthly Meetings - The Society meets once a month at the Pimpama State School, Hotham Creek road & Rifle Range road, Willow Vale (Pimpama). (UBD Map 326, Ref A5). Anyone interested is invited to attend a meeting to see what we do, or to join. Contact us for instructions on how to get to the meeting room, etc. All members and visitors are invited to contribute items of interest at these meetings.Field Nights - These observing nights are held after each monthly meeting on the school oval, giving members and visitors the opportunity to view the night sky through telescopes. - These monthly observing weekends are held at a dark sky site away from city
lights. PublicationsOur publication QUASAR is sent to members annually, usually in December. QUASAR provides an overview of some of our member’s achievements and the society events throughout the past year. Our society bulletin EVENT HORIZON is sent to members and friends monthly by email. Event Horizon lists all upcoming society events and interesting up to date society news. A link to Event Horizon can also be found on the first page of our website.
LibraryBooks and Magazines may be borrowed from our Library, free of charge, by members. We have a good collection of contemporary astronomy books, Sky & Telescope and Astronomy magazines. Telescope HireTwo Gemini telescopes are available for hire by members.
