Brisbane Astronomical Society member and long time friend of the SAS, Brendan Downs, made his second Supernova discovery in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 22nd. The Supernova is catalogued as SN2010dc and was found in the galaxy IC4854. At discovery the supernova was at a dim 17.2 magnitude. Other members of BOSS (Backyard Observatory Supernova Search team) were ready to act at a moment’s notice to assist with confirmation and reporting the discovery to the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (CBAT), the body that officially announces astronomical discoveries. The BOSS team consists of SAS members Peter Marples, Greg Bock, Colin Drescher, Pat Pearl and also Brendan Downs (BAS) and Stuart Parker (New Zealand).
