For my photographs I used a Meade
ETX90 Telescope with a focal length of
around 1250mm and mirror diameter of 90mm. Further I had a Nikon Coolpix
4500 Digital-Camera with a special ?self-made? eyepiece which I could screw
onto the lense of my Camera.
Because this sun eclipse crossed
a popular holiday area, an estimated crowd
of 20000 ?eclipse tourists? travelled to this area to see the eclipse.
On the day of the eclipse you could see all sorts of telescopes and cameras
build up along the beach. For me it really seemed to be the largest
Astro-Camp in history! Our hotel was only 500m away from the path of the
moon shadow.
On the day of the eclipse the
weather was perfect! Blue sky and a
comfortable temperature of around 25°C.
In the last minute before the
eclipse it rapidly got dark and shortly before
the moon had covered the sun you could see Venus bright on the sky.
The last seconds before the eclipse and the eclipse itself was something
from a different world!
I got a cold shiver on my back
straight after the sun was switched off !
And during the eclipse I had the impression to stay on a alien planet !
It was a very strange feeling to see this black moon high in the sky ! You
really can't describe this feeling with words ! It's maybe a mixture of
the
feelings you would have shortly before the landing of a alien space ship,
during a full moon night on the last day of the world ! And just after the
eclipse is finished you have a feeling as if the world was reborn again!
I hope my images can give you
at least a bit of an impression of this
fantastic sun eclipse!
I would like to dedicate these
images to the greatest astro-photographer SAS
have ever had....to Erwin van der Velden.
Greetings to all members of SAS!
